Soe Aung, an artist from Mandalay, was born in 1968 and studied under the patronage of U Kyaw Nyunt (Malikha) and U Khin Maung San. Soe Aung’s works were selected in the finalist category of the Philip Morris Group Art Exhibition. He also participated in the Leading Artists exhibition organized by the Myanmar Times Journal. Soe Aung currently lives in Mandalay.
Soe Aung’s ‘Portrait of My Lady’, inspired by his wife, is representative of his focus on the female figure. Soe Aung’s female figures are beautifully rounded, accented with bold colour. His emphasis on the flatness of the painting surface imbues his work with a strong contemporary flair in spite of the relatively traditional theme and the highly representational nature of his work.
Portrait of My Lady, 2006, Acrylic on canvas, 80 x 80 cm (31 x 31 inches approx.), Signed and dated by the artist, £1,500 (stretched, framed)
